Gloria Fisher Business Person of the Year Award

**2026 Nominations will be accepted until May 11**

The Gloria Fisher Business Person of the Year Award was created to recognize outstanding entrepreneurs who are making a significant contribution to downtown Dartmouth. The award honours one of the community's most beloved business pioneers, Gloria Fisher, who ran Fisher's Stationary on Portland Street for more than half century.

About Gloria Fisher

Gloria Fisher, and her husband Harold, opened Fisher's Stationary on Portland Street in 1959. When Harold passed away in 1968, Gloria kept running the business successfully until her retirement in 2014 at the age of 93. Customers remember Gloria Fondly as a kind, hard-working shop owner who went the extra mile for her customers and greeted everyone she knew by name.

Eligibility for the Gloria Fisher Business Person of the Year Award

The Gloria Fisher Business Person of the Year Award will be given to a downtown Dartmouth business person who demonstrates an excellent level of business standards and ethics, plus leadership, creativity, vision and entrepreneurial spirit.  The winner also shows concern and provides support for fellow members of the business community and the people in our neighbourhood.  Moreover, they foster awareness and promote Downtown Dartmouth whenever and wherever possible.

An individual must own, or be employed by, a business within the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission district boundaries is eligible for the Award.  An individual or individual(s) can be nominated for the award or nominate themselves.

How to Nominate

1. Please provide a short bio of the nominee, their business, their community involvement and comment on any recent successes.

2. Please provide an additional paragraph or more to comment specifically on how the nominee demonstrates:

  • an excellent level of business standards and ethics;

  • leadership, creativity, vision and entrepreneurial spirit;

  • concern and provides support for fellow members of the business community, our customers and people in our neighbourhood; and,

  • fosters awareness and promotes Downtown Dartmouth whenever and wherever possible.​

 

3. Nominations will be accepted until May 11, 2026 and can be emailed to info@downtowndartmouth.ca
